Ceiling to Floor, and So Much More
How We Transformed a Kitchen into a Dream

You may not feel like you’re walking into a dream every time you step into your kitchen without knowing exactly why. Often, it’s not one big issue. It’s a handful of small details that aren’t quite working together. That’s where we come in. At Rowan Hall Interiors, we specialize in identifying what’s holding a space back and creating a plan to bring it into alignment with how you really want to live.

For this Rocky Hill family, the kitchen wasn’t meeting their needs or reflecting their style. Between the textured ceilings, dated flooring, and a layout that boxed everything in, it was clear this space needed a fresh start.

BEFORE
AFTER

From Disjointed to Dreamy

As with every Rowan Hall project, we began with a welcome packet and consultation to understand the family’s needs and goals. One of the first things we addressed was the flooring. The downstairs had a mix of carpet and tile that visually chopped up the space. We replaced everything with warm, wide-plank hardwoods to create a sense of flow, continuity, and quiet luxury throughout the main level.

The floors alone made a dramatic difference, but the layout was still working against the space. A partial wall separated the kitchen from the breakfast nook, blocking both light and connection. That wall came down, and with it, the kitchen opened up beautifully.

BEFORE
AFTER

A New Way to Live in the Space

With the floor plan opened up, we turned our attention to the details. A tiny, shallow closet near the kitchen wasn’t serving much purpose, so we reimagined it into a custom bar area with matching cabinetry, a polished quartz counter, and a tile backsplash that echoed the main kitchen design. Seeded glass doors add a charming, collected look and provide a place to display glassware or favorite bar pieces.

Throughout the full-service design phase, our team created detailed floor plans, elevations, and a curated presentation of samples. The clients were able to see the entire concept before anything was ordered. We handled every detail of the design development so they could move forward with confidence and clarity.

Soft Finishes and Clean Lines

The new design palette focused on softness and sophistication. We selected warm greige cabinetry to create a timeless foundation, paired with creamy quartz countertops and matte black hardware for a clean, grounded look. The elongated hex backsplash tile brings subtle texture and light reflection, offering just enough detail without overwhelming the room.

The newly expanded island now serves as the heart of the kitchen. With room to seat four and plenty of prep space, it invites both connection and functionality. The island feels tailored, not trendy, and suits everything from morning coffee to entertaining friends.

Elevating the Everyday

Beyond the kitchen, the home needed a few extra touches to complete the transformation. We smoothed out the textured ceilings throughout the main floor and updated the front entry with a new black door and refined light fixture. These changes may seem small, but they created a cohesive look that feels intentional from the moment you walk through the door.

While the clients focused on their day-to-day life, our team took care of the rest. From ordering products to coordinating timelines and managing vendor communication, we kept the project on track and handled all the logistics. Our builder partners appreciated having clear specs and well-organized information, and the homeowners appreciated not having to worry about the details.

The Finishing Touch

Once the construction was complete and every product had arrived safely in our climate-controlled staging area, it was time for the installation. We styled every surface and made sure the kitchen was not only complete but polished to perfection.

The homeowners returned to a space that looked and felt entirely new. The reactions were everything we hoped for.

“Alfie,” said the lady of the house, “you made my dreams come true!” “Welcome home” moments like these are why we do what we do!

It’s So You! Why Custom is King
Skip the Showroom: How RHI Designs Furniture That’s Truly You

If you’ve ever stepped into a beautifully designed home and thought, “Where did they find that piece?” there’s a good chance it didn’t come from your average Knoxville furniture store. At Rowan Hall Interiors, custom furnishings are one of our not-so-secret weapons for creating homes that feel layered, intentional, and deeply personal.

We love our local retailers (Sylvia never turns down a window-shopping trip). Still, when it comes to our clients’ homes, we’re not pulling from showroom floors. We’re curating and customizing every detail to reflect you, not the latest inventory trends.

Let’s break down why custom furniture makes such a difference and how our team makes it effortless for you.

Your Home, Your Story. Not Someone Else’s Catalog.

Knoxville has no shortage of beautiful furniture stores, but they all tend to carry similar looks, fabrics, and sizes. That’s great for fast furnishing, but not for designing a space that’s uniquely you. Most retail showrooms are curated around what’s currently trending. That works wonderfully if it happens to match your personal style. But if it doesn’t? You’re out of luck.

And that’s the problem with trends. They come and go. They aren’t tailored to your life, your family, or the way you want to live in your home.

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we don’t chase trends. We blend classic, long-lasting design with the elements that make your space feel like home and uniquely yours. Whether it’s a legacy-worthy dining table or a sofa you’ll curl up on for a decade, every piece is thoughtfully chosen to reflect your style, not what’s popular this season.

We customize dimensions, materials, colors, and even cushion fill to create furnishings that fit your lifestyle as perfectly as they fit your room. Need an extra-deep sofa for family movie nights? Done. Want a bench seat with bouclé upholstery that doesn’t shed? You got it. Hoping for an antique-inspired sideboard with modern proportions? Challenge accepted.

Made to Mix. Made for You.

This is where things get fun. When we say custom, we really mean custom. Right down to the pillow cording.

Our clients love that we can mix and match just about anything. Want a velvet chaise with contrast cording and hand-knotted fringe on the pillow corners? We can do that. Prefer linen with a modern piped edge and a playful pop of pattern on your lumbar? Absolutely.

From upholstery to pillow trim, from cording to cushion fill, every element is up for discussion. We can pair any material, any color, and any pattern to create a combination that’s entirely yours. The level of customization we offer means no two projects are ever the same. Your home will be unmistakably you.

Built to Last. Not Just to Sell.

Custom furnishings aren’t just beautiful. They’re built with intention. When you work with us, you’re getting access to a network of trusted, high-quality vendors we’ve spent decades cultivating. These aren’t mass-produced pieces that show up in three days with a mystery screw missing. These are heirloom-quality designs made with craftsmanship, care, and often, a little Southern hospitality.

We’ll handle the specs, the samples, the approvals, and yes, the ordering and delivery too. Every item is inspected and stored in our climate-controlled staging facility until install day. That means no delays, no scratched legs, and no frantic furniture assembly at the eleventh hour.

Comfort Is Always in Style

At Rowan Hall, we believe a stylish home should also be a comfortable one. That’s the beauty of custom design. We can deliver both. Alfie is known for her love of transitional interiors that mix timeless elegance with modern livability. Custom furniture gives us the freedom to strike that balance perfectly.

You’ll never have to choose between a beautiful piece and a livable one. Our team considers scale, function, kid-friendliness, and even nap-ability when designing your space. (Yes, Alfie has tested more than one custom sofa for napping potential.)

Furniture with a Backstory. And a Future.

There’s something special about knowing your dining table was made just for you or that your chairs are upholstered in fabric chosen with your lifestyle in mind. It adds meaning and longevity to the design. It ensures your home will feel timeless instead of trendy.

Plus, custom pieces often allow us to support small businesses and artisans across the country. We love knowing the people behind the product. Our clients love knowing their homes are filled with thoughtful, intentional pieces they won’t find anywhere else.

Ready to Go Custom?

Whether you’re starting fresh in a new build or upgrading a well-loved home, custom furnishings are a beautiful way to elevate your space. And the best part? You don’t have to do a thing. From design to delivery, we manage every step so you can sit back and enjoy the final result. A home that’s perfectly tailored to you.

If you’re ready for a space that looks like you (and only you), we’d love to help. Schedule a discovery call or book your initial consultation today. Let’s create something beautiful, just for you.

Dreaming of a Home Makeover in 2026? Here’s When to Book a Designer

If your Pinterest board is brimming with swoon-worthy spaces and you’ve been mentally remodeling your kitchen every time you unload the dishwasher, it might be time to stop dreaming and start planning.

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we help bring your vision to life through a thoughtful, full-service design process tailored to your home, lifestyle, and timeline. But here’s something most homeowners don’t realize: beautiful, personalized homes take time. That means if you’re hoping for a home refresh, renovation, or new build in 2026, the best time to begin the process is now.

The Rule of Thumb? Book a Season Ahead

If you’re wondering when to reach out, here’s a helpful guideline we share with our clients:
Always book a season ahead.

Right now, we’re in the heart of fall, which makes this the perfect moment to reserve your spot for a winter project kickoff. The new year brings fresh energy, renewed goals, and a desire to make your home feel more aligned with your life. But waiting until January to start the conversation often means starting later than you’d hoped.

Whether you’re planning a spring renovation, a summer installation, or a fall move-in day reveal, booking early ensures your project stays on track and unfolds smoothly.

Why You Should Start the Interior Design Process Before You Think You’re Ready

We work on a limited number of full-service interior design projects each year to ensure each client receives our undivided attention. As of now, our calendar is fully booked through the holidays, and we’re currently opening spots for new projects beginning in early 2026.

Designing a home that feels both luxurious and livable requires more than moodboards and good taste. It involves:

  • Aligning with your contractor’s build schedule
  • Creating a cohesive design plan that reflects your goals
  • Selecting and ordering custom furnishings and finishes
  • Coordinating with trusted vendors and trades
  • Managing timelines, troubleshooting hiccups, and preparing every detail for installation day

From our first consultation to the final reveal, our signature white glove process gives clients a clear roadmap from concept to completion. Whether your project is furnishings-only or involves construction, we keep you informed, supported, and excited every step of the way.

The Truth About Interior Design Timelines

To help you plan ahead, here’s what a typical Rowan Hall Interiors project timeline might look like:

  • Design & Planning Phase: Several weeks of creative development, floor plans, moodboards, and sample selections
  • Custom Ordering: Lead times vary from 8 to 16 weeks depending on the item and vendor
  • Project Management & Staging: All furnishings and finishes are received, inspected, and stored in our climate-controlled staging area
  • Installation & Reveal: Our team handles every last detail — right down to fluffed pillows and perfectly hung art

For furnishing-focused projects, we typically plan for a three-month window. Larger remodels or new builds may take closer to six months. Planning ahead allows us to align your home goals with your timeline — and make sure everything arrives on time, in perfect condition.

Why Our Full Calendar Is a Good Sign

We often hear from prospective clients who say, “We wanted to work with you, but didn’t realize how far in advance you book.” Our steady schedule isn’t about exclusivity, but rather a commitment to doing things the right way — with focus, intention, and a high-touch experience for every client.

Rowan Hall Interiors proudly maintains a spotless 5-star rating on Google, which reflects the care, creativity, and professionalism we bring to every project. Our clients know they’re in good hands, and their kind words speak volumes:

“I am delighted with my home! Alfie Rowan worked with me to redecorate and refresh my 110-year-old craftsman home… The furnishings were a perfect balance of historic warmth and modern highlights… I have the home I have always wanted — and one that is beautiful beyond my expectations.”

“We didn’t know what we wanted. After several moves across country, we had a mixture of furniture in various styles… Our direction to Alfie was when we walked in our home, we wanted to say ‘Wow’! I’m not sure how, but Alfie and team did it! The transformation of our home was magnificent… We still walk into our home daily and say ‘Wow’.”

“Alfie and her team are great to work with. Her attention to detail and expertise are exactly what is needed to make any house a home. Before you remodel or decide to sell, she should be your first call.”

When you work with Rowan Hall Interiors, you’re not just hiring a designer. You’re gaining a collaborative partner with the experience to translate your vision, the processes to keep your project on track, and the heart to make your house feel like home — down to the very last detail.

What a 1920s Mansion Taught Us About Custom Interiors Today
Lessons from the Julian Price House

Every now and then, a home stops you in your tracks. It whispers its story through timeworn moldings, vintage fixtures, and wallpapered ceilings that somehow feel both nostalgic and current. The Julian Price House, a 1920s estate in Greensboro, North Carolina, is one of those rare homes, meticulously restored and brimming with character.

We had the chance to tour it during this fall’s High Point Market, thanks to a private event hosted by our friends at Thibaut and our wonderful rep, Joy. As designers who spend our days helping clients blend old and new, it felt like stepping into a living masterclass. Every detail was intentional. Every room felt layered, lived-in, and loved.

It reminded us exactly why we do what we do and how thoughtful, custom design can bring that same sense of magic into any home, whether it’s a 100-year-old charmer or a brand-new build full of personality.

Here’s what we learned and how we bring it to life for our clients every day.

Moldings, Millwork, and the Magic of Original Details

Let’s start with the bones. The Julian Price House is full of them: stunning crown moldings, arched radiators, vintage fixtures, and millwork that tells a story at every turn. What made this home shine was how those features weren’t hidden. They were highlighted.

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we live for this balance. Whether we’re working in a historic Knoxville neighborhood like Sequoyah Hills or on a custom build that needs a sense of soul, we believe character doesn’t have to be sacrificed for comfort. In fact, it’s what makes your home feel like you.

And when a home already has something special like original trimwork, antique lighting, quirky nooks, or a back staircase (like the Julian Price House’s charming staff stairwell-turned-guest wing), our job is to design around those details, not over them. That’s where custom furnishings come in. We’ll design a sofa that complements your curved archways, or a built-in that feels original to the home, because it was crafted just for that spot.

That’s exactly what we did in our Fourth & Gill project, where the home’s original details were woven seamlessly into our design plan with carefully scaled furnishings and layered finishes. Every piece worked with the home’s history, not against it.

The Power of Custom: When Furniture Belongs

One of the most striking things about the Julian Price House was how perfectly everything fit. A small bar area that felt like it was meant to be there. Bedrooms that felt gracious, not generic. A scullery so charming, Alfie may have tried to move in.

This is the difference custom makes.

At Rowan Hall, we’re not just picking from a catalog. We’re designing pieces that respond to the architecture, reflect your personality, and elevate the function of your home. Whether you have historic millwork, asymmetrical walls, or a newer home full of personality and bold taste, custom design ensures that what you bring into your space feels curated, not cookie-cutter.

We consider everything: the pitch of a chair back, the depth of a banquette, the profile of a leg, the way a fabric repeat flows across a frame. This is what turns furniture into heirloom pieces and rooms into destinations.

We’ve done it for Fourth & Gill. We’ve done it for Rocky Hill cottages and West Knoxville new builds. And we can do it for you.

Small Spaces, Big Impact

The Julian Price House had no shortage of wow-worthy moments, but one of the most talked-about was a small-but-mighty bedroom wrapped in Thibaut wallpaper from top to bottom. Paired with custom bedding, oversized art, and layers of color and pattern, it proved just how much personality a small space can hold.

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we love helping our clients take design risks, especially in the spots where they might least expect it. Powder rooms, sculleries, upstairs landings, home bars… these are the places where bold design makes a lasting impression.

Don’t know where to start? We do. From concept to install, we guide you through the process and ensure your bold ideas are rooted in beauty, balance, and function.

Wallpapered Ceilings & Metallic Magic

The ceilings at the Julian Price House were having a moment. One hallway featured a soft metallic finish that caught the light in the most enchanting way. Another staircase hall showcased an elegant wallpapered ceiling, framed by intricate molding.

These design moments don’t happen by accident; they’re the result of intentional, layered thinking.

In our process, we take the time to explore those details with you. During your design presentation, we’ll walk you through mood boards, elevations, and material samples that consider not just your walls and floors, but the spaces above and in between. Because the fifth wall deserves attention, too.

Historic Soul, Modern Comfort

Every room at the Julian Price House was a lesson in balance: vintage plumbing fixtures (we’re looking at you, blush pink and seafoam green) paired with modern shower fittings for real-life function, original radiators restored and framed by newly painted trim, antique sconces glowing beside fresh, colorful wallcoverings.

It’s the same philosophy we bring to every Rowan Hall project. We help you honor what you love, while making it livable for today. Whether that means repurposing a family heirloom into your entryway design or choosing light fixtures that nod to history without feeling heavy, our design blends intention and story with elegance and comfort.

From Frightful to Delightful: Your Worst Renovation Fears Meet Our Best Solutions
Terrifying tales from the world of renovations (and how Rowan Hall Interiors saves the day)

It started like every great home project does.
A fresh Pinterest board. A hopeful scroll through tile samples.
A friend’s cousin’s brother who said he “kinda” knew how to build a bookcase.

What could possibly go wrong?

Cue the creepy music. Because when you head into a remodel without the right plan or the right people, things can get scary. Really scary.

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we’ve seen the horror stories. The ghosting contractors. The budget monsters. The DIY disasters. But our clients don’t live them because we’ve built a clear, calming, and expertly managed process to help you avoid every home-renovation nightmare.

Let’s take a spooky little stroll through some of the worst-case renovation scenarios and show you exactly how we keep them from ever happening in your project.

Fear #1: The Vanishing Contractor

The Horror: The floors are ripped up, the cabinets are off the wall, and suddenly… the contractor is gone. No updates. No responses. Just echoes.
The RHI Fix: With our strong vendor relationships and project management experience, we coordinate with trusted tradespeople and manage the timeline from start to finish. You’ll get weekly Friday updates, behind-the-scenes coordination, and a team that never ghosts.

Fear #2: The Budget Monster

The Horror: What started as a $30,000 kitchen somehow turned into a $75,000 gut job, and no one saw it coming.
The RHI Fix: We help set realistic expectations and allowances from the very beginning. During our detailed design presentation, you’ll see product costs, materials, and every thoughtful detail before we move forward. You get transparency, clarity, and control. No budget jumpscares here.

Fear #3: The DIY Curse

The Horror: You thought, “How hard could it be?” Two YouTube videos later, there’s drywall dust in your hair and you’re Googling “how to undo shiplap.”
The RHI Fix: We’re your full-service team for a reason. From concept to installation, we handle everything, including construction documents, drawings, and material specifications tailored for your contractor. We speak both client and builder, so there’s no confusion and no chaos. Just calm, buildable beauty.

Fear #4: The Mismatched Mayhem

The Horror: You swore that paint was greige. Why does it look like peach? And why does your modern sofa look like it time-traveled into a cottagecore coffee shop?
The RHI Fix: This is why we have Sylvia, our in-house color specialist and material matchmaker. From undertones and lighting to scale and style, we curate every piece to work together, so your home feels layered and intentional — not like a haunted mashup of TikTok trends.

Fear #5: The Endless Waiting Game

The Horror: Your furniture is on backorder until the next ice age, and the contractor says your home will be “done before Christmas”… of next year.
The RHI Fix: We create a procurement schedule before things get underway and store all furnishings in our climate-controlled staging area. That means when construction wraps, everything is ready for a seamless install. No waiting. No wondering. No spooky surprises.

The Happy Ending: Installation & Reveal

The best part of any horror story is when the monster is defeated — and at RHI, that’s reveal day.

While you’re away enjoying a spa day (or pretending you’re in a Nancy Meyers movie), our team transforms your space into a stunning, styled sanctuary. Every pillow fluffed, every candle placed, every corner perfectly polished. You come home to magic — no hexes, no headaches.

No tricks, only treats!
