Transforming Spaces
The Indispensable Role of an Interior Designer in Home Remodeling

Should you hire an interior designer? If you’re considering a home remodel, you’re probably dreaming of the seamless, enjoyable home renovations you see on TV. You love the idea of customizing a home to meet your needs and coming home on reveal day to kick up your feet. Well, that’s what your interior designer is for!

Home remodeling is a thrilling venture, but navigating the myriad choices and decisions can be overwhelming. Pieces you pick for their visual appeal may present functional challenges, and vice versa. You may know what you want on a piece-by-piece basis and find that the puzzle of a cohesive space doesn’t quite come together. Perhaps you have a clear vision of the overall feel you want to imbue your space with but can’t seem to find anything quite right to accomplish your goal.

Even if you’re able to navigate common roadblocks such as these, there’s still a timeline and budget to be considered. Picking everything out might be your cup of tea until costs that seem reasonable individually start adding up. It’s all fun and games until checkout! After everything’s been picked out and paid for, there’s still the management of the actual installation. You can’t have too many renovations done at once, but you don’t want to spend any more time than necessary living in a work in progress. If reading this has sparked any anxiety, there’s good news!

All these problems share one simple solution: a well-rounded interior design firm. If you find yourself wondering “Should I hire an interior designer?” we’re here to help answer your questions. Today, we’ll explore the compelling reasons why enlisting the expertise of an interior designer like those at Rowan Hall is not just a luxury but an essential investment in the success and satisfaction of your home renovation project.

Vision Realization and Conceptualization

Our interior designers at Rowan Hall are adept at translating your vision into tangible design concepts. An entire design scheme can be built around something you already love! Whether it’s something simple, like a color or furniture piece, or complex, like a Pinterest board of seemingly unrelated images that capture an overall feeling. Our experienced team can use their extensive knowledge to match your taste to a particular design style, and they can even take things a step further by formulating the perfect fusion of multiple styles!

From understanding your lifestyle and preferences to capturing the essence of your dream space, our expertise ensures that the finished remodel reflects your unique style while optimizing functionality. In our initial consultation, we get to know you first and foremost. We ask questions to understand your habits and desires before embarking on a journey to design your perfect home.

Our interior designers are trained to strike the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. We consider not only the visual appeal of a space but also its practicality, ensuring that your remodeled home is both beautiful and tailored to suit your daily needs.Knoxville interior designer, Loudon county interior designer, Knoxville, Farragut, Rarity Bay, Wind River, custom draperies, interior finish selection, paint color consultation

Budget Optimization and Cost Efficiency

If you’re wondering if you should hire an interior designer for your remodel project, but your main concern is cost, we have some good news! Contrary to common belief, hiring an interior designer can lead to significant cost savings in the long run. Our designers are skilled in managing budgets, negotiating with suppliers, and recommending cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality. Our insights help you make informed decisions, preventing costly mistakes and ensuring the best value for your investment.

Embarking on an extensive home renovation without the proper expertise and training can lead to costly mistakes and eventual changes you will want to make. Once you live in your home, you may realize that some investments weren’t worth it while others would have been well-suited for your family. The Rowan Hall team knows how to delegate your budget in a way that is wisest for your project.

Access to Exclusive Resources

In addition to the knowledge that comes from over 20 years of business, the Rowan Hall team has access to a vast network of resources, including exclusive suppliers, artisans, and materials. This access allows us to curate a selection that aligns with your design goals, introducing unique elements that may not be readily available to the general public.

This allows you to diversify your selection and stand out from every other home on the street. If what’s popular for now at homegoods stores doesn’t suit your taste, don’t settle. See a larger range of options within the same budget, and expand your horizons even further with customization. For instance, access to an interior designer’s resources grants you the ability to choose a furniture piece and its textile separately. Gone are the days of compromising on one aspect because you love another! Everything can be tailored to you.

Streamlining the Decision-Making Process

Our designers also understand that too many options can be overwhelming! Not to worry; a good interior designer will allow you a reasonable scope to choose from while also curating the best paths forward for you. Home remodeling involves countless decisions, from choosing paint colors to selecting fixtures and furniture. Each choice affects the next, and it can be difficult to connect all the dots and arrive at the final destination you pictured originally. high point market, alfie rowan, knoxville interior designer, farragut tennessee, Tellico interior designer, tellico lake house, Loudon county interior designer, primary bedroom renovation, outdated home update, custom draperies, custom finish selection, interior furnishings, expert interior design firm

Designing History
Celebrating Female Dominance in Interior Design for Women's History Month

As Women’s History Month begins, it’s fitting to cast a spotlight on the indomitable influence of women in the realm of interior design. Beyond aesthetics, the impact of female designers resonates through the ages, shaping the very fabric of how we experience and inhabit our spaces. As a female-dominated team and women-owned interior design firm, we thought it only appropriate to pay homage to the significance of female dominance in interior design. At Rowan Hall Interiors, we celebrate the creativity, resilience, and innovation that women bring to this dynamic field.

Pioneering Voices in Design

Explore the trailblazing women who paved the way for generations of interior designers. From Elsie de Wolfe, the first professional interior designer, to contemporary visionaries like Kelly Wearstler and Sheila Bridges, their contributions have not only shaped design trends but have also shattered glass ceilings, proving that creativity knows no gender.

Rowan Hall Interiors, founded by Alfie Rowan over 20 years ago, would not exist as we know it without the pioneering women in the interior design industry. As a female-owned business, it’s not lost on us that women throughout history fought to make our jobs possible. It’s only right that we consider the past during this Women’s History Month.

Feminine Perspectives in Design

The female touch in interior design often brings a unique perspective that transcends mere aesthetics. Women designers are adept at infusing spaces with warmth, functionality, and an intuitive understanding of the needs and desires of those who inhabit them. Their designs often prioritize comfort without sacrificing style, creating environments that truly feel like home.

It’s no secret that men and women have differing talents. Throughout history, women have been the ones to “make” the home, so why shouldn’t we also be the ones to design it? Although gender roles aren’t what they once were, women still tend to be more in tune with daily living habits and how functional design might improve quality of life. When it comes to combining practicality, durability and beauty, the ladies of Rowan Hall Interiors know how to design a space that fits your lifestyle–instead of the other way around!

Breaking Stereotypes and Redefining Spaces

In an industry historically dominated by men, female designers challenge stereotypes and redefine what is possible. They bring fresh ideas, innovative solutions, and a keen sense of adaptability to create spaces that reflect the diversity and dynamism of the individuals who live, work, and thrive within them.

The collaborative nature of interior design finds a natural ally in the collaborative spirit of women. Our Rowan Hall designers excel at building relationships, working closely with clients, and fostering a sense of community within the design industry. This collaborative approach not only enhances the creative process but also contributes to the growth and inclusivity of the field.

Nurturing the Next Generation

Female dominance in interior design extends beyond the present moment; it involves nurturing the talents of the next generation. Many women designers actively mentor and support emerging talents, fostering a legacy of creativity and empowerment that propels the industry forward.

At Rowan Hall, the women on our team range from early 20s to early 50s, and the younger team members are constantly soaking up knowledge from our more experienced designers. As women in a male-dominated industry, we understand the importance of paving the way for future female designers just like the women before us.Rowan Hall team, interior designers knoxville tn, interior design team farragut tennessee

Let’s Have a Girl Party!

As we honor Women’s History Month, let’s acknowledge and celebrate the profound impact of female dominance in the field of interior design. From historical pioneers to contemporary innovators, women have shaped and continue to shape the way we experience our surroundings. Their influence goes beyond trends, embedding itself in the very essence of how we create and inhabit spaces, leaving an indelible mark on the ever-evolving canvas of design. The White-Glove Treatment
7 Reasons to Choose Custom Window Treatments for Your Home

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we understand the pivotal role that window treatments play in transforming a space. While store-bought curtains offer convenience, the unparalleled beauty and functionality of custom window treatments are a design secret we love to implement in our clients’ homes. In this blog post, discover the top 7 reasons to choose custom treatments can elevate your home to new levels of sophistication and style.

1. Tailored to Perfection

One size does not fit all, especially when it comes to your home. Custom window treatments are meticulously tailored to the specific dimensions of your windows, ensuring a flawless fit. Say goodbye to the awkward gaps and uneven drapes that often accompany store-bought options. With custom treatments, your windows receive the attention they deserve.

Our Knoxville, Tennessee interior designers do it all! From meticulous measurements to careful installation (including a steamer when necessary), our team ensures perfection from beginning to end. Our endless catalog of knowledge allows us to achieve window treatment excellence every time.

2. A Symphony of Fabrics

The world of fabrics is vast and varied, and custom treatments allow you to explore it fully. Our Rowan Hall designers choose from an extensive array of high-quality materials, patterns, and textures to perfectly complement your existing decor. Play with fabric pairings, and let us help coordinate a lux palette that ties in with the rest of the textiles in your home. The result? Window treatments that harmonize seamlessly with the unique aesthetic of your space.

We attend yearly design markets and continuously receive new collections of fabric samples from our favorite vendors to ensure we are always on the cutting edge of drapery creativity. Your window treatments will be perfectly unique and unlike any you’ve ever spotted when browsing online. We can even coordinate throw pillows or bedding to make your entire space feel luxurious and custom.

Your home is a canvas, and window treatments are an integral part of the materials used to create your own work of art. With custom options, you have control over every design element – from the style of the headers and hems to the placement of embellishments. The result is a personalized masterpiece that reflects your taste and style sensibilities. Don’t settle for something almost perfect when you could have everything just right!

But don’t worry–you don’t need to know what style pleats to pick or the difference between a valance and a cornice. That’s why you hire the Rowan Hall team! We know the perfect length to account for panel growth over time based on the fabric weave. We’ve spent 20 years learning from our mistakes so you get our seasoned expertise and custom drapery perfection!

4. Functionality Tailored to You

living room, renovated kitchen, custom designed by Knoxville interior design team at Rowan Hall Interiors, Interior designers in knoxville TennesseeBeyond aesthetics, custom window treatments can be tailored to meet your specific functional needs. Whether you crave complete blackout solutions for a restful night’s sleep or desire sheer fabrics that allow natural light to dance through, customization ensures your treatments are as practical as they are beautiful.

We can even include motorized shades when you really want to live in luxury. Alfie thinks every home should have an automated “wine time” when the shades go down and the lights dim when it’s time to wind down for the evening. We can make your beautiful window treatments functional and practical for your lifestyle.

5. Endless Style Possibilities

Store-bought curtains offer a limited range of styles and sizes, often leaving homeowners compromising on their design vision. Custom treatments, on the other hand, open the door to endless style possibilities. From Roman shades to tailored valances, the choices are as varied as your imagination allows. Combined with the ability to customize furnishing textiles, custom window treatments allow you to drape your home top to bottom in the perfect mix of colors, textures, and prints. Transform your living space into a visual and tactile delight for the senses!

6. Long-Term Investment in Quality

BEFORE: outdated draperies

Nothing ages a space like faded or tattered curtains! What looked cheerful in a store a few years ago might now provide the type of energy that’s only useful when you’re going for a “haunted” look around October. Luckily, quality is the hallmark of Rowan Hall custom window treatments. Handcrafted with precision and made from premium materials, these treatments are built to last. Investing in custom options is a long-term commitment to the durability and enduring beauty of your home’s decor.

7. Professional Installation for a Flawless Finish

The final touch in the journey of custom window treatments is professional installation. Our team ensures that each treatment is installed with meticulous care, guaranteeing a flawless finish that enhances the overall aesthetic of your space. We know little details always add up to a stunning final result!

2024 Color Trends
A Palette of Possibilities Transforming Interior Design

As we step into 2024, the world of interior design is awash with vibrant hues and captivating shades that promise to redefine the aesthetics of our living spaces. Pantone, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore have unveiled their Colors of the Year, each offering a unique perspective on the visual narratives that will shape the design landscape. In this blog post, we explore the 2024 color trends and delve into what these choices signify for the world of interior design.

Rowan Hall’s 2023 DOTY award-winning project

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we’re not afraid of a little color. In fact we were awarded a 2023 Designer of the Year award for our vibrant home addition project. Shades of blue, green and pops of orange show how bright colors influence interior design in the home. In this case, our clients wanted a bonus room that reflected their fun personalities, and the Rowan Hall team selected the perfect hues to do just that.

The 2024 color predictions show that vibrancy is back after years of leaning into neutral design. Today, our team’s expert paint color consultant is breaking down the trending shades and giving us a peek into what might be on the design horizon this year.

Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year: Peach Fuzz

Pantone, the global authority on color, has designated Peach Fuzz as the hue that encapsulates the spirit of 2024. This fresh, peachy hue with warm yellow undertones embodies “our innate yearning for closeness and connection.” According to Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, Peach Fuzz is “a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance.” She calls this color choice “a shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”

In other words, this gentle peach tone evokes softness and is a classic favorite, while also being bright and playful. This choice opens up exciting possibilities for injecting personality and character into interiors. From details that pop to full color walls and furnishings, we’ll explore how this color can be seamlessly integrated into various design schemes. Peach is a comforting hue that can make any space feel cozy. It’s bright enough to add a splash of color while still maintaining a softness that lends an air of sophistication.

photo from Alfie’s 2023 High Point Market trip

Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods once said, “Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed!” The ladies at Rowan Hall Interiors tend to agree, but we think we can make a strong case for peach! Pink makes a bold impact; it’s a polarizing color, and there’s no denying that those who love it flaunt it. However, sometimes pink can be too loud for decorating restful, thoughtfully designed spaces. In interiors, peach evokes the touch of femininity those enamored with pink are really looking for in their homes. As an added bonus, peaches are easy to sneak past and satisfy those less in love with pink and “girly” aesthetics, especially if the term “Salmon” is thrown around.

Peaches marry more coherently to neutrals and other popular colors that make environments feel peaceful and clean, such as blues and greens. A peach’s yellow tones compliment blue on the color wheel, while its red correlates to green. As a result, a harmonious contrast is created with the subdued shades of blue and green we see everywhere in homegoods. A variety of multi-colored patterns take advantage of this balance, making prints with peach easy to find and coordinate with ever-popular greens and blues, as well as with each other. For example, our Knoxville interior designers have used this peach color as a common thread to pair together the different prints on the rug, drapes, and pillows of this lovely sitting room. The peach details interspersed amongst neutral tones in the prints are brought out against the lighter, warm neutral walls. Solid peach textiles are paired with touches of an airy blue, which serves as a secondary accent color. This cool shade is reminiscent of the color chosen by Sherwin Williams to embody 2024 design.

Sherwin Williams’ 2024 Color of the Year: Upward

Sherwin Williams is sure to turn out another crowd-pleasing favorite, naming Upward as the color that will dominate design conversations in 2024. The official Sherwin Williams Website introduces Upward as “a breezy, blissful blue- the color found when we slow down, take a breath, and allow the mind to clear.” From bedrooms to beach houses, Alfie walks us through potential places this dreamy color could shine in the video below.

Ethereal yet playful, this blue is wildly versatile. Upward can be dressed up or down like a favorite pair of jeans! If this shade speaks to you, our Knoxville interior designers would be happy to help you pick vibrant prints or grounding neutrals to make this color your own.

Throughout the years of interior design, we’ve seen neutrals take over, colorful palettes shine, minimalism have its moment, and maximal design rise again. Some shades appear as a common thread in each rising and falling trend, and hues of blue tend to be a constant in all tastes of design. Regardless of your preferred design flavor, a shade like Sherwin Williams’ Upward can shine in your home.

If blue is your jam, but you like your shades with a bit more punch, Benjamin Moore’s 2024 color might just speak to your soul.

Benjamin Moore’s 2024 Color of the Year: Blue Nova

Benjamin Moore, known for its timeless selections, introduces Blue Nova as the defining hue for 2024. A velvety shade that effortlessly balances “depth and intrigue” with “an undercurrent of reassurance” according to Benjamin Moore, this choice is an “alluring mid-tone” which “features an enchanting duality, capturing the spotlight with endlessly classic appeal”.

Reminiscent of the bold character of rich, deeper shades like Cobalt and Navy, Blue Nova still mantanes a softness that makes it a more versatile blue that can be adapted to a range of design styles. Uncover the ways in which Blue Nova can be incorporated into interior design, from subtle accents to dominant color schemes.

Preferred by more than 35% of the world’s population, blue is the most popular color on Earth. Studies in color psychology tell us we find blue calming, particularly in deeper shades like Blue Nova, and that people are more productive in blue colored rooms. So, blue is suitable for rest and for work, making it the perfect choice for any area of the home! That’s why our Knoxville interior designers love to incorporate touches of deep blues into bedroom spaces. Here, we’ve used bold blues as main accent colors, tying together draperies, pillows, and bedding. framed artwork and lamps behind custom upholstered sectional, custom upholstered ottoman, matching patterned chairs, wood beams in custom designed living room, by Knoxville TN interior design firm Rowan Hall Interiors, custom home in Farragut TN

Speaking of blue as an accent, those playing with the idea of an accent wall should consider painting with Blue Nova. The idea has the seal of approval from our color specialist, Sylvia. “Blue Nova strikes the perfect balance between bold and subdued,” she says, “It’s a midtone, so it won’t overwhelm a space by being too dark or too bright. It should play nicely with most other main wall colors. That said, it’s still a striking hue worthy of being made a focal point.”

Harmonizing the Palette

The Colors of the Year from Pantone, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore provide a rich tapestry of inspiration for interior designers and homeowners alike. Whether you lean towards the bold and vibrant or the subtle and timeless, 2024’s color trends offer a palette of possibilities to transform your living spaces into havens of style and expression. Embrace the hues that resonate with you, and let the colors of 2024 guide your journey toward a beautifully designed home.
