2024 Color Trends
A Palette of Possibilities Transforming Interior Design

As we step into 2024, the world of interior design is awash with vibrant hues and captivating shades that promise to redefine the aesthetics of our living spaces. Pantone, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore have unveiled their Colors of the Year, each offering a unique perspective on the visual narratives that will shape the design landscape. In this blog post, we explore the 2024 color trends and delve into what these choices signify for the world of interior design.

Rowan Hall’s 2023 DOTY award-winning project

At Rowan Hall Interiors, we’re not afraid of a little color. In fact we were awarded a 2023 Designer of the Year award for our vibrant home addition project. Shades of blue, green and pops of orange show how bright colors influence interior design in the home. In this case, our clients wanted a bonus room that reflected their fun personalities, and the Rowan Hall team selected the perfect hues to do just that.

The 2024 color predictions show that vibrancy is back after years of leaning into neutral design. Today, our team’s expert paint color consultant is breaking down the trending shades and giving us a peek into what might be on the design horizon this year.

Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year: Peach Fuzz

Pantone, the global authority on color, has designated Peach Fuzz as the hue that encapsulates the spirit of 2024. This fresh, peachy hue with warm yellow undertones embodies “our innate yearning for closeness and connection.” According to Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, Peach Fuzz is “a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance.” She calls this color choice “a shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”

In other words, this gentle peach tone evokes softness and is a classic favorite, while also being bright and playful. This choice opens up exciting possibilities for injecting personality and character into interiors. From details that pop to full color walls and furnishings, we’ll explore how this color can be seamlessly integrated into various design schemes. Peach is a comforting hue that can make any space feel cozy. It’s bright enough to add a splash of color while still maintaining a softness that lends an air of sophistication.

Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods once said, “Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed!” The ladies at Rowan Hall Interiors tend to agree, but we think we can make a strong case for peach! Pink makes a bold impact; it’s a polarizing color, and there’s no denying that those who love it flaunt it. However, sometimes pink can be too loud for decorating restful, thoughtfully designed spaces. In interiors, peach evokes the touch of femininity those enamored with pink are really looking for in their homes. As an added bonus, peaches are easy to sneak past and satisfy those less in love with pink and “girly” aesthetics, especially if the term “Salmon” is thrown around.

Peaches marry more coherently to neutrals and other popular colors that make environments feel peaceful and clean, such as blues and greens. A peach’s yellow tones compliment blue on the color wheel, while its red correlates to green. As a result, a harmonious contrast is created with the subdued shades of blue and green we see everywhere in homegoods. A variety of multi-colored patterns take advantage of this balance, making prints with peach easy to find and coordinate with ever-popular greens and blues, as well as with each other. For example, our Knoxville interior designers have used this peach color as a common thread to pair together the different prints on the rug, drapes, and pillows of this lovely sitting room. The peach details interspersed amongst neutral tones in the prints are brought out against the lighter, warm neutral walls. Solid peach textiles are paired with touches of an airy blue, which serves as a secondary accent color. This cool shade is reminiscent of the color chosen by Sherwin Williams to embody 2024 design.

Sherwin Williams’ 2024 Color of the Year: Upward

Sherwin Williams is sure to turn out another crowd-pleasing favorite, naming Upward as the color that will dominate design conversations in 2024. The official Sherwin Williams Website introduces Upward as “a breezy, blissful blue- the color found when we slow down, take a breath, and allow the mind to clear.” From bedrooms to beach houses, Alfie walks us through potential places this dreamy color could shine in the video below.

Ethereal yet playful, this blue is wildly versatile. Upward can be dressed up or down like a favorite pair of jeans! If this shade speaks to you, our Knoxville interior designers would be happy to help you pick vibrant prints or grounding neutrals to make this color your own.

Throughout the years of interior design, we’ve seen neutrals take over, colorful palettes shine, minimalism have its moment, and maximal design rise again. Some shades appear as a common thread in each rising and falling trend, and hues of blue tend to be a constant in all tastes of design. Regardless of your preferred design flavor, a shade like Sherwin Williams’ Upward can shine in your home.

If blue is your jam, but you like your shades with a bit more punch, Benjamin Moore’s 2024 color might just speak to your soul.

Benjamin Moore’s 2024 Color of the Year: Blue Nova

Benjamin Moore, known for its timeless selections, introduces Blue Nova as the defining hue for 2024. A velvety shade that effortlessly balances “depth and intrigue” with “an undercurrent of reassurance” according to Benjamin Moore, this choice is an “alluring mid-tone” which “features an enchanting duality, capturing the spotlight with endlessly classic appeal”.

Reminiscent of the bold character of rich, deeper shades like Cobalt and Navy, Blue Nova still mantanes a softness that makes it a more versatile blue that can be adapted to a range of design styles. Uncover the ways in which Blue Nova can be incorporated into interior design, from subtle accents to dominant color schemes.

Preferred by more than 35% of the world’s population, blue is the most popular color on Earth. Studies in color psychology tell us we find blue calming, particularly in deeper shades like Blue Nova, and that people are more productive in blue colored rooms. So, blue is suitable for rest and for work, making it the perfect choice for any area of the home! That’s why our Knoxville interior designers love to incorporate touches of deep blues into bedroom spaces. Here, we’ve used bold blues as main accent colors, tying together draperies, pillows, and bedding. framed artwork and lamps behind custom upholstered sectional, custom upholstered ottoman, matching patterned chairs, wood beams in custom designed living room, by Knoxville TN interior design firm Rowan Hall Interiors, custom home in Farragut TN

Speaking of blue as an accent, those playing with the idea of an accent wall should consider painting with Blue Nova. The idea has the seal of approval from our color specialist, Sylvia. “Blue Nova strikes the perfect balance between bold and subdued,” she says, “It’s a midtone, so it won’t overwhelm a space by being too dark or too bright. It should play nicely with most other main wall colors. That said, it’s still a striking hue worthy of being made a focal point.”

Harmonizing the Palette

The Colors of the Year from Pantone, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore provide a rich tapestry of inspiration for interior designers and homeowners alike. Whether you lean towards the bold and vibrant or the subtle and timeless, 2024’s color trends offer a palette of possibilities to transform your living spaces into havens of style and expression. Embrace the hues that resonate with you, and let the colors of 2024 guide your journey toward a beautifully designed home.

Our Most-Used Grays

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray (SW 7015)

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray (SW 7015) is a soft gray-greige with just the right amount of warmth. Versatile enough to cover the entire home inside and out, it appears much brighter as exterior color and more calming and subdued as an interior color. A perfect exterior choice for those searching for something just a touch darker than a classic off-white, Repose Gray can be brightened by pairing with white or accentuated with darker grays to appear as a true gray outside. To achieve the same tone in a lighter shade of off-white, use Eider White (SW 7014).All: The Harper House

Sherwin Williams Dovetail (SW 7018)

Sherwin Williams Dovetail (SW 7018) is a truly classic gray. Balanced in tone and brightness, it achieves a neutral hue with just enough warmth to avoid appearing blue in any lighting. It has enough depth to translate as a gray in bright sunlight while also being light enough to avoid veering into charcoal territory. Dovetail harmonizes with any color palette, cool or warm.Top Left: This House of Dreams;  Bottom Left: How to Nest for Less;  Right: Elegant Painting

Sherwin Williams Peppercorn (SW 7674)

Sherwin Williams Peppercorn (SW 7674) is a dark gray with a true neutral tone. Balanced between warm and cool, Peppercorn has the depth and neutrality to create a timeless exterior or be used as a versatile accent color. Another of Sherwin Williams’ Top 50 Colors, Peppercorn’s deep hue can be utilized to create a striking contrast against any bright color, a bold focal point, or rich, neat trim.

Sherwin William Gauntlet Gray (SW 7019)

Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Gray (SW 7019) is a dark gray with greige undertones. Largely neutral with just a hint of warmth, Gauntlet Gray translates visually as a classic charcoal. In bright sunlight it appears lighter and warmer, while in shade it looks deeper and more blue. It pairs beautifully with other warm neutrals while maintaining the versatility of a truly neutral-toned gray when interacting with color.Left: MAGZHOUSE;  Top Right: Robert Thomas Homes;  Bottom Right: Kylie M. Interiors

Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray (SW 7068)

Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray (SW 7068) is a dark gray with cool blue-green undertones. Like our other gray exterior suggestions, Gauntlet Gray and Peppercorn, Grizzle Gray falls into the charcoal family, but it embraces the cold side of these deep, sophisticated grays. Complex and moody, Grizzle Gray appears more blue or cool green-gray in shadow and neutral gray in direct sunlight. It’s a perfect choice for those who want something deep and cool that skirts the line between flatter, neutral grays and grays that translate as blues or greens in natural light.Left: Elegant Painting;  Top Right: Mary Dowdy via Pinterest;  Bottom Right: Elegant Painting

Top White Paint Colors for Exterior
a professional paint color consultant breaks down her most used whites

With endless amounts of paint colors, brands and finishes, selecting the perfect hue for your project can feel like a daunting decision. Especially when choosing an exterior color, the decision is one that can easily make you second guess yourself. There are endless details that will affect the look of your home’s paint color, from topography to the neighbor’s house to your trim color. Someone else’s perfect shade may look completely different on your home, so it’s always best to consult the experts!

Factors to Consider

An even more daunting task is picking the perfect hue of white. A bright, classic white home will never go out of style, but the countless undertones and shades sure do make the decision a difficult one if you’re not a professional paint colorist. Rowan Hall lead designer, Alfie Rowan, shared that when she arrives for a paint consultation, she immediately studies the surroundings of the home. She takes note of the roof color, landscaping, backdrop, stone, brick, and even the position of the sun.

Feeling overwhelmed? Our Knoxville interior design firm staffs professional color consultants who know how to choose the perfect color for your home. They know their paint decks and finishes, have their favorites, and can walk you through the best options for your specific project. Our Most-Used Whites

Rowan Hall color consultant, Sylvia, and lead designer, Alfie, put their heads together to narrow down four of their favorite whites for an exterior paint job. They’re letting us into their expert brains, breaking down their picks and pointing you in the right direction for your new white home.

Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008)

Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008) is a warm, bright white with beige undertones. It has just enough warmth to soften it without leaning too far into cream territory. Free of yellow tones, it looks clean without being overly reflective or sterile. Alabaster is immensely popular and versatile. Sherwin Williams’ 2016 Color of the Year, it can be used to brighten both interiors and exteriors with a classic neutral shade.Left: Home Bunch;  Right Top and Bottom: Brick and Batten

Sherwin Williams Snowbound (SW 7004)

Sherwin Williams Snowbound (SW 7004) straddles the line between a crisp off-white and a soft true white. With its taupe undertones, it’s slightly cooler and brighter than Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008) while still sharinging its level of versatility. Delightful against dark colors, it pairs perfectly with blacks, maintaining high contrast without appearing too stark. It coordinates well with cool grays and colors with green, blue, and greige hues, just cool enough to compliment them while also looking at home amongst truly neutral palettes. Receiving natural light as an exterior color, Snowbound will appear brighter and whiter outside than in interior spaces, where slight undertones of pink or greige may be visible depending on adjacent colors. With just a touch of pigment to soften it, it never leans too warm or too cool, avoiding ever appearing yellow or blue.

Sherwin Williams Shoji White (SW 7042)

Sherwin Williams Shoji White (SW 7042) is a cozy, creamy off-white. Warm and inviting, Shoji White sports beige undertones with just a touch of gray to neutralize it. Against dark charcoals and blacks, it appears more white than cream, while lighter pairings bring out its softer side. Its buff tone is derived from an orange pigment, so it avoids being a yellow-tinged white despite its warmth. This also results in a stunning contrast against cool colors such as light, airy blues. Shoji White has certainly earned its spot on Sherwin Williams’ Top 50 Colors list alongside our other white recommendations, Alabaster (SW 7008), Snowbound(SW 7004), and Eider White (SW 7014).Top Left: Southern Living;  Bottom Left: Whitney Parkinson Design; Right: Mod and Mood

Sherwin Williams Eider White (SW 7014)

Sherwin Williams Eider White (SW 7014) is a cooler off-white option with soft gray undertones. Perfect for those who want to avoid both creams and whites that look overly stark in direct sunlight, Eider White is reliable in its brightness and versatility. Though it is slightly cool, Eider White is fundamentally neutral, and therefore pairs agreeably with just about any other color.Top Left: homedit;  Bottom Left: Sherwin Williams #swcolorlove Gallery;  Top Right: Making Home Base, Chelsea Coulston;  Bottom Right: Rugh Design

Welcome to Farragut!
An interior designer's guide to the place she calls "home"

Almost 30 years ago, Knoxville natives Alfie and Mitch Rowan chose to raise their family in Farragut, Tennessee. Decades later, their children have fled the nest, they’ve spent over 20 years growing Rowan Hall Interiors, and they still call Farragut “home.” Who better to weigh in on the Knoxville suburb than them?!

Farragut is one of East Tennessee’s favorite places to raise a family. The top schools, safe neighborhoods and convenient location make it a premier choice for parents looking for a small-town atmosphere for their children to grow up. Rowan Hall’s office sits within the Farragut city limits where our interior design team is lucky enough to serve this great community.

Ghosts of Decades Past

The Knoxville suburb’s history dates back to the Civil War, but it wasn’t officially incorporated until 1980. The homes and neighborhoods do tend to reflect that late 1900s style. Dark, dated kitchens from the 90s and 80s floral wallpaper aren’t uncommon in Farragut homes. The good news is that most of these homes have excellent bones and quality craftsmanship due to the neighborhoods’ high building standards. You may not fall in love with a 30-year-old home at first glance, but, lucky for you, we know a Farragut interior design firm with plenty of experience turning an outdated home into a place you love!

Farragut Kitchen renovation – BEFORE

Farragut Kitchen renovation – AFTER

Throughout the years, our Farragut clients have welcomed Rowan Hall’s team of interior designers into their homes to breathe more modern life. We’ve created classic and timeless kitchens, cool and contemporary bonus rooms, and light, airy great rooms. We get to know our clients’ lifestyles and design preferences and give them spaces that welcome and inspire.

An office too depressing to work in is wasted space, and a bedroom that doesn’t feel like an oasis isn’t serving anyone well. We love when our clients trust Rowan Hall to give their homes new life and create spaces that function for their families. If your Farragut or Knoxville-area home doesn’t feel like you, our team of experienced interior designers is ready to give your place a facelift. We’ll work with what you have, design custom pieces that fit your lifestyle, and hand-select fabric and artwork that will inspire you for years to come. Schedule an initial consultation today and get to know our principal designer, Alfie Rowan. She’ll provide insight and expertise in this 2-hour working meeting, and by the end, you’ll be ready for a Rowan Hall refresh to make your home shine!

Fresh and Functional

Farragut basement bonus room – BEFORE

Farragut basement bonus room – AFTER

One Farragut home has been the subject of several Rowan Hall renovations throughout the years. We began in their very brown kitchen, gave their basement bonus room a fresh new feel, said “goodbye” to a wood-paneled office from decade’s past, and touched just about every room in between. Now these clients enjoy a home that reflects their own personal style and will evolve with them for years to come.

If you’re looking to buy a home in Farragut, Alfie’s advice is to not get hung up on the outdated details. Fall in love with a neighborhood, find a home with solid bones and room for your family to grow, and understand that the vision may come later. If you can’t envision the potential, give us a call! We can provide design plans, visual renderings, and inspiration to make you excited about your new home. Better yet, we’ll put those plans into action while you sit back and enjoy your new town.

Our Farragut Favorites

Alfie and Mitch are no strangers to the good eats and sweet treats around Farragut, and our team of designers knows the best spot on every street! Your central location means you get to experience it all!

Good Eats

CavaKasia’s favorite! If you see a team wearing blue shirts, it might be the Rowan Hall squad after an install day!

Connors Steak and Seafood – Our go-to for team meetings and work-day lunches, and we’re never disappointed! Connors is always a crowd-pleaser.

Seasons – Their menu is–you guessed it–seasonal, so get the summer tomato salad while you can! You can’t go wrong with this Farragut favorite anytime of year.

Sweet Treats

VGs bakery – No need to slave over baked goods in the kitchen when VG’s talented crew does it for you! The best sweet tooth satisfaction in Farragut, and their goodies are made from scratch with fresh ingredients (so the calories don’t count!)
