Aspen Luxe Basement Renovation
Part I
There’s nothing we love more than when our industry friends call Rowan Hall for all their interior design needs. From realtors to contractors and builders, we love being a resource in turning ordinary houses into extraordinary homes. So, when Tim at Preferred Construction found himself with an extensive renovation project and clients who desired a full-service upgrade, he knew Alfie and our team at Rowan Hall would eagerly help Preferred bring their clients’ ideas to life.
Starting with an unfinished, unusable basement and looking to transform the space into the perfect family hangout, these clients needed guidance in knowing what would be possible for the space. Our team of talented interior designers couldn’t wait to see the potential, so after meeting with the clients in their dark, cold basement, we made a plan to turn their dreams into an attainable reality. Once our team knew their wishlist, we provided drawings and renderings that Preferred interpreted into an accurate estimate.
Plans to Perfection
Our plans included a kitchenette and bar area, banquette seating, a living area, and a powder bathroom. This family desired a space that both kids and adults could enjoy, so each element of the design needed to be multipurpose.
This basement kitchen was the heart of the design. This area is perfect for entertaining, stashing kids’ snacks or storing overflow from their upstairs kitchen. We chose not to do a full kitchen, as our clients didn’t need this space to function in that way, but we did include a dishwasher, sink, refrigerator, and plenty of cabinet storage. The island can function as a bar for the adults or a birthday party buffet for the kids, and cleanup is easy either way.
A traditional dining table and chairs didn’t make as much sense in this design as the banquette seating we decided on. Another multi-functional part of our design, this bench was built with storage and electrical. It can serve as a hideaway for clutter and a workspace where laptops and iPads can be charged.
Working with Preferred Construction’s team was a great partnership because of their talented craftsmen who were able to bring our vision to life. While we have the fun, pretty ideas, they have the technical know-how to build one-of-a-kind pieces from scratch. These built-in benches really give our clients a functional element to their basement that wouldn’t have been possible without the talented team at Preferred.
Turning Hiccups into Victories
While there are always speed-bumps that arise along the way, working with a great team makes it easy to address issues with as little stress for the client as possible. With any construction project, communication is key. When the designer and contractor communicate well, the client can sit back, relax, and trust the experts to handle their project with utmost care.
There were a few “have-tos” in this project that we turned into wins for the design. The niche in the kitchen was necessary for structural support, so we utilized this hidden space with shelving to add storage and hide the garbage can. We also had to incorporate an electrical closet behind the banquette seating, which ultimately made the space cozier and felt like the perfect size in the end.
Your Right-Hand Girls
Our expert interior design team sees a project differently than the construction experts on-site, which means no detail is overlooked. While Preferred’s team saw every issue from a technical standpoint, looking to ensure that the space was structurally sound and passed inspection, our designers think about how our clients will live in the space. If you’re considering a renovation, having a skilled interior designer on your team will ensure you and your family’s lifestyle is considered in every decision.
Working with our Knoxville interior designers also takes the pressure off of you to make the difficult design decisions along the way. Our team at Rowan Hall worked with Dixie Kitchen to design the cabinetry and Broadway Carpets on the flooring. Our expert designers and project managers are on standby to tell your construction team which paint finish or grout color to use, while you get to carry-on with your own day job. Of course, another benefit of working with Alfie and the team is knowing your space will be thoughtfully curated for your lifestyle from the studs to the sofas. We ensure every bit of your investment is cohesive and perfectly picked for you. We filled this space with custom furnishings, beautiful artwork and cozy textiles, but you’ll have to stay tuned for those details!
